According to the print edition of SportBild (as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham Hotspur are now eyeing a summer move for Bayern Leverkusen centre-back Piero Hincapie.
Tottenham turned to the Bundesliga last summer to strengthen their backline, securing Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg, with the Dutchman having proved a fantastic find for the Lilywhites.
It has now been suggested by Bild that the Premier League side could look to Germany once again to bolster their options at centre-back, with Hincapie, who looks on course to win the league title with Leverkusen, on the club’s radar.
Leverkusen might be willing to sell Hincapie
Bild claim that a departure for Ecuador International this summer is ‘not out of the question’ particularly if Jonathan Tah stays out at BayArena.
It is explained that Tottenham are now ‘courting’ Hincapie ahead of the summer transfer window, with Ange Posetecoglou’s men thought to be testing the waters for a potential summer operation.
The report alleges that Xabi Alonso’s men could part ways with the 22-year-old and decide to reinvest the funds into the squad but the Bundesliga leaders are expected to demand ‘at least €40m’ (£34.2m) for the centre-back.
Spurs Web Opinion
Hincapite would fit the bill for Spurs, given his age and his versatility, with Ecuadorian able to cover for Van de Ven at centre-back as well as for Desinty Udogie at left-back if required. However, I suspect that Tottenham might be prioritising a move for Bolongna’s Riccardo Calafiori instead.
