Former Tottenham midfielder Sandro has revealed that some big clubs from across Europe tried to sign him when he was at White Hart Lane but he rejected their advances because he was happy at Tottenham.
Sandro arrived at Spurs straight from Brazilian football and it took him a while to become a regular in the Lilywhites side.
However, once he became a fixture in the Tottenham midfield, Spurs fans quickly took him, fondly nicknaming him ‘the beast’, for his strength and his willingness to put his body on the line.
Injuries prevented Sandro from fulfilling his potential, with the midfielder departing Tottenham in 2014 to join Queens Park Rangers.
The 35-year-old, who hung up his boots last year, produces some memorable moments in a Spurs shirt, with perhaps his best performance coming away at the San Siro in 2011 as Harry Redknapp’s men emerged with a 1-0 win against a star-studded Milan side in the first leg of the Champions League round of sixteen tie.
Sandro turned down Inter Milan and Man City
Sandro revealed that the Rossoneri were among the sides who tried to sign him soon after that game.
When asked about the 1-0 win, he told Gianluca di Marzio: “It was a crazy match that we won 1-0 with Peter Crouch scoring the winning goal.
“Then it was a special evening for me because it was my debut in the Champions League. I remember that our goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes was incredible that evening. When you needed him, he always responded and was present. T
“That evening was monumental. What if I could go to Milan in the following years? Milan wanted me as well as Napoli and Manchester City. In my best moment, I said no to many clubs out of love for Tottenham.”
Spurs Web Opinion
While Sandro was not the most technically gifted player, his heart, determination and his athleticism more than made up for it. Sadly, for a player who was that reliant on his physical attributes, he was always going to struggle once he started suffering persistent knee injuries.
