The One Show fans all say the same thing as Adrian Chiles returns to the sofa 11 years after he quit
ADRIAN Chiles has made a comeback to The One Show more than a decade after he quit.
The veteran TV presenter, 55, returned to the teatime favourite on Tuesday night to chat about his new book.
But fans of the BBC show were all left saying the same thing as he began INTERVIEWING his fellow guest.
Adrian was sat on the sofa alongside Brit actress Naomi Ackie, who plays Whitney Houston in the new biopic about the late superstar.
He suddenly asked Naomi: “What about the accent?”
Naomi, from east London, explained that it took her six months to learn how to speak like the American singer.
Adrian continued: “Really, how do you do that then?”
Turning to The One Show’s current hosts, Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas, he said: “Sorry, I’m just…”
While Alex laughed, “Go on, Adrian!” Jermaine told him: “I’ve got a cup of tea for you here…”
And Adrian didn’t stop.
After Naomi told him about her experience with a dialect coach, he asked about the Newark accent: “Could you summon it straight up? You couldn’t do Mary Had A Little Lamb in Whitney Houston’s accent?”
Fans of The One Show were left amused at the scenes playing out before them.
One viewer tweeted: “Nice to see Adrian Chiles interviewing Naomi Ackie, despite being a guest haha. He was one of the original presenters@BBCTheOneShow.”
Another joked: “Adrian Chiles fishing for his old job back here??”
A third mused: “Adrian Chiles looks like he’s just been woken up after sleeping behind #TheOneShow couch for over 12 years.”
And alongside a ‘winking’ emoji, someone else wrote: “This #AdrianChiles chap is decent on #TheOneShow, would make a good presenter.”
The One Show hit screens for the first time in 2006 with a pilot episode, fronted by Adrian and current Loose Women star Nadia Sawalha.
When The One Show returned for its first series the following year, Adrian was still at the helm but he co-hosted with Christine Lampard (then-Bleakley).
The duo stayed in the job for three years before they were poached by ITV in a reported £500,000-a-year deal to present Daybreak.
The morning show was brought in to replace GMTV but ratings soon began to dwindle. They were axed the following year.
Adrian later told the Daily Mail: “Part of the problem probably was me.
“Looking back on it, am I right for breakfast TV? I thought I was dead right for it, and now I think I was probably dead wrong.
“What housewife wants to look at me in the mornings?”
