People are only just realising the real meaning of SpongeBob Squarepants and it makes the cartoon seem so much darker
EVER wondered where the creators of your favourite cartoons get their ideas from?
Most of us will have seen an episode of SpongeBob Squarepants, but fans are only now realising the real meaning behind the animated Nickelodeon series.
TikTokker @asheleyspam regularly shares conspiracy theories with her 384,000 followers.
But in a new video, she shares her recent revelation.
She claims that the character’s in Stephen Hillenburg’s SpongeBob Squarepants actually represent various mental health disorders, including ADHA, Depression and Bipolar disorder.
“It took me 10 years to realise that SpongeBob characters represent disorders.”
During the 16-second video, Asheley shows the cartoon’s various characters and reveals which disorders they’re meant to represent.
First up is SpongeBob Squarepants, who she claims is meant to symbolise ADHD.
She also shares that she thinks Patrick Star is meant to represent Down Syndrome, and Squidward is Depression.
The TikTokker also reports that Mr. Krabs is Narcissistic Personality Disorder, and Plankton is, in her opinion, representative of Bipolar disorder.
Below the video, she added: “How did we not notice these things sooner?”
The video attracted plenty of attention online, gaining more than 2.3 million likes and 29.2 million views.
In the comments, Ashley’s followers shared their own thoughts, with one writing: “I thought they represent the seven deadly sins.”
Someone else put: “Just like the characters from Winnie The Pooh.”
Although not all were convinced, with one writing: “I think there’s a chance you’re overthinking this.”
Another agreed, writing: “I think there’s a chance you’re overthinking this.”
A third added: “Don’t kill my childhood.”
While the show’s inspiration has never been confirmed, the seven deadly sins theory has become one of the most popular about the animated series.
On the Screenrant website, it states: “The outrageous characters in SpongeBob SquarePants have spawned numerous fan theories, and one of the most intriguing (and eerily plausible) is the SpongeBob seven Deadly Sins theory.
“As the name suggests, some viewers have found similarities between the SpongeBob characters and the seven sins outlined in the Bible (Sloth, Gluttony, Pride, Lust, Greed, Envy, and Wrath).”
Later, it states which character represents which sin.
“The ever-angry Squidward is Wrath…which involves an uncontrollable hatred towards everything.
“Squidward hates almost everyone and everything in Bikini Bottom, except for himself and his clarinet.
“Last but not least is SpongeBob himself, who according to the theory represents Lust.
“This term is usually understood as an excessive sexual desire, but others define it as an excessive love for others.”
