I’ve only just discovered there’s an easy way to spell out my name – but I’m not alone, loads of people had no idea
A WOMAN has been left stunned after discovering that people don’t use “random words” to ensure their name is spelled right when making appointments.
Holly took to TikTok to share her shock over her discovery, which she made after trying to book an appointment herself.
“So did anyone else know that there’s a phonetic alphabet you’re supposed to use in real life?” she began.
“I thought when people make appointments and spell their name and last name, they just kind of say whatever word comes to mind.
“So I was making an appointment and I was like, ‘U as in Uganda, R as in roast beef’.
“And I just hear my mum laughing her head off.
“And I’m like, ‘What’s so funny? I’m just trying to make sure this person spells my name right.’
“She’s like, ‘Holly, you have to use the phonetic alphabet’.
“And I was like, ‘The what?’”
Holly continued to admit her grandmother had then written the entire phonetic alphabet out for her.
“You’re supposed to use this,” she said.
“Did anyone else know that? I did not.”
She captioned her video: “The way I thought people just picked a random word every time.”
And she wasn’t the only one to be left shocked by the discovery of the phonetic alphabet.
“Ok I’m embarrassed because I have always used random words,” one person commented on her video.
“Omg I’ve been saying random words,” another added.
As a third said: “I THOUGHT IT WAS RANDOM!”
“No I definitely just say random things HAHA,” someone else wrote.
“I had no idea!” another admitted.
And others revealed their hilarious mishaps while using random words to spell things out.
“One time I said S like Sunshine and my boss died laughing,” one wrote.
“One time I said T as in Tea,” another laughed.
As a third said: “I once said A as in Ariana grande.”
