My DIY paint hacks are great for home improvement projects – they keep everything cleaner, including hard-to-reach edges
KNOWING how messy a DIY project can get, one home improvement guru shared her tips for clean painting.
You don’t need to tape up the whole room to keep it stain-free.
Hoping to guide those who want to fix up their spaces, DIY and home improvement expert Molly Miller (@therenegadehome) often shares her crafting hacks on TikTok.
In a recent video, she revealed her top three hacks for smooth painting.
First, she targeted keeping your paint can tidy.
“Create a spout on your can using painter’s tape to keep it super clean,” she said.
To do so, place two pieces of tape in a triangle formation on the top of the opened can.
The paint will pour through that corner smoothly, only staining the tape that can be easily removed afterwards.
“There’s nothing worse than not being able to read the can because it’s covered in paint.”
She said you can do something similar for your hand tools too.
“Use the tape to wrap the metal part of your brush so paint doesn’t dry on it.”
And her final tip will save you hours of prep.
“If you don’t feel like taping out the entire room, slide a file folder along with you as you paint.”
The method will prevent paint from getting onto the unwanted, protected surface and instead will only stain the paper folder.
“This works really well on hard-to-reach places like door frames, and on top of chair-rail and board and batten.
Viewers chimed in with their own hacks as well.
“Use fabric softeners to clean brushes,” one suggested.
“Home Depot or Lowe’s sells clip-on pour rims for paint cans. They work great and are washable and reusable,” added another.
