I’m an expert car salesman – the WORST way to warm up your car will cost you £100s & it doesn’t work
AN expert car salesman has warned drivers of the WORST way to heat their car that could cost you £100s to fix.
No motorist enjoys sitting behind a freezing cold wheel this winter, but making this mistake could ruin your engine – don’t be caught out.
As temperatures fall, Brits are looking for different hacks to heat their car quickly.
But, in a helpful video posted to TikTok by @preciseauto.sg, a motor whizz urged drivers to follow his advice.
“Here’s what you should NOT do when warming up the car,” he warned.
“Unlock the door, start the engine, and then immediately rev the engine by pressing on the gas.
“This will spoil your engine because your car is still cold to start and has not reached the optimum temperature yet.
“You need to at least wait 20 seconds before pressing on the gas as the fuel has just started travelling within the engine.
“Revving the engine will add burden and spoil the engine much quicker than you expect.”
The same logic can be applied to EVs, as they also have an optimum performance temperature.
Starting up your electric car in colder conditions can lead to poorer mile range and battery life.
Other experts have suggested selecting the preheat function, to let the battery warm up before setting off.
Another tip included storing your EV inside, or under a car cover rather than leaving it exposed to the elements.
Meanwhile, a driving expert has shared the six things you must to do to before bad weather hits.
This comes as one mechanic with more than 55 years experience revealed here are the top five things you should never do to your automatic.
Scotty Kilmer urged drivers to be aware of how to get the most out of their vehicles.
And, the motor guru also pointed out a little-known feature drivers must check to make their car last longer.
According to Scotty, there’s one vital motor part that should be changed regularly – and it’s not what you might expect.
