Christina, a cleaning whizz, shared her two-ingredient cleaning solution recipe[/caption]Christina (@thermalandoaks) shared the video with over 370,000 TikTok followers.
The mom explained that she wanted to improve how she cleaned by removing toxic cleaners from her home.
“I have swapped a lot of products in our home to heal my postpartum hormones and to have clean products for my family,” she said.
“This is extremely easy to make and such a huge money saver.”
First, she saved up lemon and orange peels, storing the peels in a glass container.
Next, she filled up the jar with white vinegar, covering it with a lid and letting it marinate on a shelf for at least two weeks.
Once two weeks have passed, the liquid can be strained into a spray bottle, where it’s ready for immediate use.
The part is that the peels can be used for quite a long time: “Fill the jar back up with vinegar for continual use,” Christina recommended.
According to The National Science Foundation, vinegar consists of about five percent acetic acid, which helps it break down the structure of some dirt, oils, films, stains, and bacteria.
Although effective, the NSF recommends avoiding the use of vinegar on natural stone, waxed wood, cast iron, or aluminum as it can harm these surfaces.
Initially, the mom was against using white vinegar due to the smell but realized the citrus peels helped to neutralize the problem, creating a delicious-smelling spray.
For those looking for different scents, she suggested substituting the citrus for cinnamon sticks or fresh herbs like sage, thyme, or peppermint.
People took to the comments to share their thoughts on her cleaning tip: “This is a great natural cleaner, been using this for years, glad to see its popularity growing,” said one commenter.
