I met & married my husband while he was in prison – I don’t care what people say, he does everything he can to please me
SOME joke that being married can feel like a life sentence but one woman took that literally.
She met and married her husband in October while he was in prison despite what other people had to say about her decision.
After getting married while he was in jail, she waited for him to be released[/caption]Erica Dixon (@demeyezz) explained her thought process in a video shared with over 12,000 TikTok followers.
“I decided to marry a man I met while he was incarcerated,” she said.
The content creator revealed she planned on having her wedding ceremony via TikTok Live once her husband was no longer under lockdown.
“I know a lot of people don’t agree with my decision and some people are acting like they’re happy for me but they’re probably like what is wrong with her, what is she doing?”
She admitted that while she did care what other people had to say about their relationship, that was something she was trying to work on.
“Before y’all start saying you just insecure, you can’t find anybody in the real world, you think I ain’t did that before?” she said.
“I did, it wasn’t for me… A lot of people are small-minded, small-minded people drive me crazy but I let those types of people get to me because I care what they think, that’s my problem.”
For Erica, it was about the effort that her husband put into their relationship, even and especially while behind bars.
“It’s harder for him but he trying to do every and anything, he trying to do whatever he can to please me, I never had that before,” she said.
“This man makes me happy, that should be all that matters, my happiness because for years I only cared about everybody else happiness.”
People were supportive of her decision and some shared their own stories of meeting their loved ones in jail.
“I met my boyfriend when I was a correction officer and he was locked up in 2001… off and on we still here,” said one commenter.
“He’s snoring next to me right now, love wins.”
In a follow-up video months after the ceremony, Erica revealed that despite her best efforts, their marriage did not last long.
Two months after announcing her plans to marry him and spending mere weeks with him after he was released from prison, she found out he wasn’t who she thought he was.
Although Erica didn’t elaborate on details as to why her marriage failed, she hinted at the cause.
“Me explaining how my husband I married while incarcerated switched up on me,” she said.
“I would give the pain a 10, a lot of people would tell you it’s not that bad but me personally, it hurted really really really really bad.”
In another video, Erica shared her thoughts on their breakup with long-time followers and supporters of their relationship.
“I’m going to start off by saying I’m good… I’m not bashing him, we just don’t see eye-to-eye on certain s**t,” she said.
“This is the last time I’m addressing this s**t, we are not f**king with each other and that’s that.”
Although Erica was unhappy with the outcome, she accepted that she gave it her best shot: “I did not want my marriage to fail but it is and it has,” she said.
Some were unsurprised: “Seriously, no one is shocked, just thought it would last a little longer,” said one commenter.
People shared their condolences and praised her for how she was dealing with the fallout.
“At least you standing on business when it comes to you! Hopefully, y’all can work it out down the line,” said one commenter.
Many were glad she gave it a try and learned from the experience.
“Honestly everyone needs love, I’m glad you figured it out without our everyday negative s**t,” said another.
