I met my older husband when I was 22 – I was already in love when I learned his real age, my parents freaked
ONE unsuspecting woman who found herself in an age gap relationship has no regrets seven years and two children later.
Her family also had their own thoughts about the unconventional unit but it proved to be a love story for the ages – literally.
“I’m in an age gap marriage, my husband is 20 years older than me and I thought I would tell you guys about how we met because we get this question a lot,” said Mary Beth (@theagegapcouple).
Their love story all started when she was working for a clothing company when her now husband walked in.
“I was like this is the hottest guy I have ever seen,” she said.
She asked her co-worker, who was also her best friend at the time, what she should say to him to make an impression.
After working up the courage to talk to her new crush, she helped him do some shopping.
Her hopes were soon dashed, however, when he next showed up at the store two weeks later – with another girl.
Still, not everything was as it seemed as the relationship was nothing serious and Mary Beth, who was already thinking about leaving, quit her job just two days later.
Upon checking out the store a third time, he inquired with Mary Beth’s co-worker about her whereabouts.
After becoming Facebook friends, she was so giddy she did her little “happy dance.”
The pair, who were deep into their puppy love – or more – would text each other until the wee hours of the morning.
“Two weeks after texting I had already fallen for him – and that’s when he told me his age. I literally thought he was ten years younger. I thought he was 32 and he said he was 42.
“I was like crap, I’m already in love with you and there’s no turning back so I guess I’m going to be with an older guy,” she said.
The lovebirds planned to meet up after the new year and things moved quickly from there when Mary Beth found herself moving in that same day.
And she has stayed by his side ever since.
Fearful of her parent’s reaction, she even lied about her living situation.
“My mom thought that I was still living with my brother and they found out about the age gap, freaked out a little bit. But then they met him and all was good.”
They still appear to be as happy as ever and have two children together.
Her fans were loving their love story and even shared their own age differences.
“I will say he definitely looks good for his age. You two look perfect together,” said one follower.
“If two people like each other, that’s it. Regardless of age. Good luck to her,” another viewer agreed.
“Twenty-three-year difference in my relationship, 21 years together and 16 years married. He is 69 I am 46 now. I love him with my soul,” said one watcher.
“Love that!” she replied.
It seemed that their love just continued to grow.
“We are 28 and 48 but we were once 27 and 47, 26 and 46, 25 and 45, 24 and 44, 23 and 43, 22 and 42,” she said in a second video.
Mary Beth shared throwback snapshots through the years including when they first met, spending the holidays together, pregnant with their child and vacationing on the beach.
The pair’s playfulness also shone through as she threw a pie in her hubby’s face.
It must be true love as he took it all in good fun.
“Seven years with my favorite person,” she said.
Some people were a bit taken aback by the age gap.
“Bit weird to me but to each their own,” said one follower.
“I don’t know, as someone in my 30s, I could never see myself dating or even being friends with someone more than a couple of years younger than me,” said another viewer.
Still, Mary Beth didn’t judge anyone for their opinions.
“That’s cool,” she replied.
“This made me feel better about the man I’m in love with,” said yet another watcher.
According to an Ispos poll, a majority of Americans surveyed saw more benefits to ten or more years of age gap dating or marrying than challenges.
