TikToker Rachel (@rachel_daydreams) posted a viral video on how to cure a “smelly backyard.”
The post has since garnered more than 940,000 views and over 400 comments.
Her hack works whether you have dogs who pee in your backyard, stray animals, or farm animals grazing the land.
“Takes care of the dog urine smell, and absorbs moisture from the ground from animal pee. Freshens up the backyard,” she wrote.
Rachel’s tip is to buy Horse Stall Refresher from Sweet PDZ, which costs $19.99.
It works by absorbing ammonia from urine and other animal waste odors.
It is “safe and gentle,” according to Sweet PDZ.
It is also non-toxic, organic, recyclable, and can be composted.
The product consists of small granules that suck up moisture from problem areas.
The refresher includes zeolite mineral, also known as clinoptilolite.
It is made up of volcanic ash and alkaline water that resulted from intense pressure, according to Standlee Forage.
It is a rock-like mineral with a honeycomb composition and can absorb up to 60% of its weight in moisture.
Clinoptilolite is negatively charged, allowing it to attract positively charged compounds, such as ammonia or urine.
In the comments section, people said vinegar could also be used to remove the scent of waste.
“I use a mixture of vinegar and water in a sprayer that attached to my hose,” one person wrote.
Rachel said her solution could also be used in kitty litter boxes.
“I add a bit to my litter boxes every time I clean them out… this stuff is probably way healthier for them than the litter actually,” she wrote.
One person was curious if the clinoptilolite would “kill grass,” but Rachel said it wouldn’t.
Others wrote that baking soda also cures the stench of urine.
