I was gobsmacked by the minister’s gross comment to me at my sister’s wedding – luckily the best man came to my rescue
A BRIDE’S sister was stunned by a crass remark from the minister.
Thankfully, the wedding’s best man swiftly intervened, offering support and solace to the maid-of-honor after the incident.

“The minister said this to me when I was maid of honor at my sister’s wedding,” she wrote as the title.
The post garnered more than 1,900 upvotes and at least 138 comments.
The minister, whose identity was kept anonymous, asked the original poster if she knew about a supposed “Unitarian tradition.”
He claimed the maid-of-honor is supposed to spend the wedding night with the minister.
The official website for the Unitarian Universalist Association does not say anything about it being a tradition — past or present — for the maid-of-honor to sleep with the minister.
Unitarians believe that weddings are about “celebrating love” between two people.

“I am seldom at a loss for words, but I was gobsmacked,” the original poster wrote online.
Even though the original poster was speechless, a member of the bridal party helped her with a retort.
She remembered the moment, writing: “The best man came to my rescue and said, ‘That’s why she’s a Presbyterian.'”
The family didn’t know the minister before the ceremony.
They hired him because they wanted someone from the unitarian denomination since the bride and groom aren’t religious.
But the inappropriate comment wasn’t the clergyman’s only offense.
“This guy also jerked my sister and brother-in-law around during the planning, always coming up with reasons to ask for more money,” she wrote.
The bride and groom were not local to the town they married, so they chose an “unknown clergyman.”
The bride is “non-religious” and wanted a Unitarian minister.
“This was the only guy within probably a 50-mile radius,” the author wrote. “He had them over a barrel.”
People in the comments section on Reddit said they were repulsed by the minister’s offensive remark.
“Damn, thank god the best man was quick-witted and could shut it down. That’s so gross,” one person wrote.
Some people said that the clergyman should be reported.
“The Unitarians are pretty strict and have a clear hierarchy, I’d report it,” a commenter posted.
“I’m a Unitarian and that is complete and utter bullsh*t,” a third wrote.
“Gross, and please report him. That’s so disgusting,” a fourth added.
