A LANDSCAPING expert has shared advice to keep lawn grass green and healthy.
He explained that his tips helped beginners save time, money, and the lifespan of their lawn grass.
Kevin, a writer at DIY Lawn Expert, shared lawn care tips for beginning gardeners looking to avoid common mistakes.
Everyone starts somewhere and Kevin explained that there was once a time when he had the worst lawn on his street.
“Two years ago I had the worst lawn on the street, now I have one of the best,” he wrote on his website.

To take his lawn from the worst to the best, he had to take steps to ensure proper maintenance and upkeep.
“Get to know your lawn (ie. your soil, grass type, drainage, etc),” he said.
Not every lawn is the same and checking in with your lawn’s present condition can help detect potential expensive issues down the line.
“Check your lawn regularly for weeds and damage from disease and insects,” he advised.
“This will help you recognize and treat problems promptly before they become big problems, saving you time and money in the process.”
Infrequent maintenance, like aeration, can also go a long way in ensuring lawn health.
“Consider an annual core aeration,” he said.
Grass roots require air, water, and nutrients to grow strong, resulting in green grass.
“This is the number one thing you can do to improve water penetration in compacted soils, improving your soil health by increasing its ability to absorb water and nutrients and its ability to drain excess water,” Kevin explained.

Another step Kevin says is often overlooked is the quality of your maintenance tools.
“Sharpen your lawnmower blade (the key to a good cut with any type [of] mower is to use a sharp blade,” he explained.
Much like a bad haircut made with rusty blades, he explained that sharp lawnmower blades were critical to avoid weak grass ends.
“Dull blades tear rather than cut the grass, which weakens the grass and makes it more vulnerable to disease, as well as gives the lawn a frayed, brownish look,” he said.
