YOU don’t need to be Rapunzel to have long hair thanks to one beauty fan who has revealed how she grew her curly locks past her knees.
Her secret? A $9.50 haircare buy from Target and a homemade gel formula.
Redditor @tinsellately shared the hair advice in a post.
She posted a photo of her long, curly hair and explained that it’s even longer when she styles it straight.
“When pulled straight, it’s just slightly below my knees now,” she said.
Her routine includes washing her hair with nothing but Maui Curl Quench and Coconut Oil Conditioner once every two to three days.
Other beauty care steps, like adding oils for moisture, have made a tremendous difference for her.
“I put jojoba oil on before combing through my hair before showering,” she said.
“Most of the time, I wear it up, but if I’m going to wear it down, I use the bowl method with flaxseed gel in the shower, then plop with a T-shirt,” she added.
The bowl method involves dunking freshly washed hair with leave-in conditioner and curl cream in a bowl of water to revive curls.
After lifting the head back up, the excess product is squeezed back into the bowl to add hold to the curls. Once dry, the curls are springy and weightless.
The “plop” technique requires wrapping wet hair overnight in a dry T-shirt and securing the bundle with a hair tie for fresh curls the next morning.
“I occasionally will blow dry on cold with a diffuser, but most of the time, I just let it air dry,” she said.
The Redditor revealed that her homemade gel hair mask has worked wonders for her strands.
“I actually make the flaxseed gel from a recipe I found on YouTube,” she said.
How to use flaxseed for your hair
Experts have long raved about the benefits of flaxseed on hair.
Healthline writer Kristeen Cherney explained that flaxseed oil can be applied directly to the hair as a mask for up to 15 minutes.
“You can use flaxseed as a pre-conditioning rinse after shampooing as well. Simply rinse the oil out of your hair before you use a conditioner,” she said.

Tracy Ariza, a dentist turned blogger, shared her recipe for flaxseed hair gel in a post.
She noted that flaxseeds are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, proteins, and antioxidants that help nourish and style hair.
“There are quite a few videos on how to make it, but basically, I get whole flaxseeds just from the grocery store, boil 1/4 cup seeds in two cups of water for six minutes, then strain the seeds out of the resulting gel into a container while it’s still hot.”
She added that the hair mask gel can be stored in the fridge for up to two weeks.
