16-year-old gets maximum sentence for fatally shooting man in South Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- A 16-year-old Buffalo male was sentenced to 3 1/2 to 10 years in state prison Wednesday for a 2022 fatal shooting in South Buffalo, the Erie County District Attorney's Office announced.
Officials said the teen, who was 14 at the time of the crime, fatally shot 24-year-old Morrell Buster Jr. on June 26, 2022 around the 100 block of Spaulding St. Buster was found deceased in the middle of the road with a gunshot wound to his neck.
The 16-year-old shot Buster with an illegal gun that was never recovered, according to officials.
A jury found the teen guilty of one count of first-degree manslaughter and one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon during a January 2024 trial.
The teen was not identified by officials due to his age.
