Women’s playoff picture taking shape in Euro club events – day three round-up
Nine clubs know they will have promotion playoff games on their agenda either on Sunday or Monday following Saturday’s drama in the women’s EuroHockey Club Challenge events; here’s a round-up of day three’s action around the continent!
Women’s Challenge I – Alanya (TUR)
In Pool A, the top two are already confirmed with Watsonians and SK Slavia Prague through to the next phase before they meet on day three tomorrow.
The Scottish side’s dream debut continued as they beat AHTC Wien 3-0; like their 5-1 win over Catholic Institute, all their goals came in the second half.
Katie McCallum broke the deadlock with 19 minutes to go and added another one 11 minutes later; Emily Dark completed the win.
Slavia, meanwhile, won against Insta 1-0 with Nikol Babická getting the only goal.
In Pool B, home side Gaziantep Poligücü nicked a vital 1-0 against Scotland’s Clydesdale Western with Emine Çelik’s corner goal the decisive moment.
Gaziantep are through as a result; Clydesdale are on six points, four ahead of both HC Argentia and Lithuania’s Šiauliai Ginstrekte ŠSG.
That pair drew 1-1 which leaves them both needing a healthy win in their final group game to have a chance of breaking into the top two. Siauliai led through Dovile Kukliene for a long time but Karolina Lisowska earned the draw for the Italians.

Women’s Challenge II – Vienna (AUT)
Cambrai and Swansea are assured a top two finish in Pool A after they started the day with strong wins and clean sheets over HC Luxembourg and HC Olten, respectively.
Cambrai have the edge on goal difference after four goals from Axelle Wiart and three from Paloma Alessi helped them win 10-0.
The Swans were involved in a much tighter game with the eventual winner against Olten coming with four minutes to go from the penalty spot, 1-0 via Jessica Roe.
From Pool B, hosts WAC are in pole position courtesy of a 4-0 success against TSOP Kolos Boryspol thanks to a late flurry. Star striker Isabella Klausbruckner scored twice.
Penarth picked up their first win with a brilliant first half setting the base for a 5-2 win over Gaziantep Doruk SK. Millicent Bushnell, Harreitte Wilcock and Charlotte Bates made it 3-0 at the break and while the Turkish side bounced back with two second half goals, the Welsh team were always in the clear.
It lifts Penarth up to second in the group on six points but they need to get a win over WAC to guarantee they will go through. Otherwise, they will have to wait and see what happens between Gaziantep Doruk and Boryspol, the latter currently on five points.

Women’s Challenge III – Porto (POR)
GD Viso’s comprehensive 10-0 win over ABC Team confirmed there will be a Portuguese showdown on Sunday for one of the two promotion places on offer.
The Porto club were too good for their Finnish opponents with Diana Moura and Daiana Ponce both scoring hat tricks.
Viso will now face Lisbon Casuals after the latter won 6-0 against SLF Mesaicos with Juliana Diaz, Jessica Alcoba and Yanina Rojas all scoring two.
On Sunday, ABC will place Mesaicos in the fifth place playoff while Gibraltar’s Europa play Croatia’s HAHK Mladost in the other promotion playoff game.
