England player ratings: Ben Chilwell struggles to fill Luke Shaw’s shoes as Jude Bellingham shows his class vs Brazil
BRAZILIAN wonderkid Endrick announced himself on the biggest stage of all by downing England at Wembley with his winner from the bench.
The 17-year-old, who will join Real Madrid this summer, injected some life into an incredibly dull Wembley friendly in which England struggled to threaten without crocked captain Harry Kane.
Ollie Watkins failed to convince through the middle in place of the Bayern Munich man, who is likely to miss next week’s friendly against Belgium too.
Neither the Three Lions or Brazil truly got going until the wonderkid’s late winner.
Substitute Lewis Dunk nodded the ball to Fulham’s Andreas Pereira, who played in Rodrygo.
The Real Madrid man saw his effort stopped by Jordan Pickford, but the ball fell to Endrick to tap in.
Here is how the Three Lions rated…
Jordan Pickford – 6
Had very little to do until the late goal, rushed out well to stop Rodrygo but couldn’t stop the ball falling to Endrick.
Showed good footwork playing out from the back in the moments before the goal.
Kyle Walker – 6
Showed good pace to get back and comfortably stop an effort from Vinicius on the line but injured himself in the process and was replaced not long after.

John Stones – 6
Showed some good front-footed defending against the speedy Rodrygo at times and looked in control for the most part.
Caught out when England tried to play the offside trap against Rodrygo for the goal and could not get back the other side of the forward to stop him in the build-up to the winner.
Harry Maguire – 4
Not the most convincing of performances from the Manchester United defender. A first half mistake handed Raphinha a chance.
Ben Chilwell – 4
An unconvincing performance and rather worrying given Luke Shaw is no certainty to be fit this summer.
Chilwell nearly reached Wembley’s top tier with an attempt on the volley from the edge of the box, had another go minutes later and sent it well wide.
Declan Rice – 6
Played in a deeper role than the one he has been flourishing in for Arsenal. Kept things organised and tidy while delivering a couple of good dead balls.
The deeper position in the middle meant the former West Ham skipper couldn’t have the sort of impact he has been making for Mikel Arteta of late.
Conor Gallagher – 6
Drove England forward from the first minute, winning a number of free-kicks with his runs from midfield. Should have been rewarded with an assist for a smart ball through to Ollie Watkins, but the Villa man blew a simple chance. Faded in the second half and started giving the ball away too often before being replaced.
Jude Bellingham – 6
Could have been sent off for a wild challenge on Bruno Guimaraes early in the first half.
Saw a lot of the ball and tried to get things going but never really made it work.
Phil Foden – 5
Foden is surely one of the first names on Southgate’s teamsheet given his form for Manchester City this season, but you wouldn’t have thought so watching this.
A very quiet performance from the attacking midfielder, who started out on the right before moving into the middle after Bellingham was given a rest.
Anthony Gordon – 6
Showed plenty of energy and adventure down the left wing and managed to get a couple of shots off but was never quite clinical enough when it really mattered.
Ollie Watkins – 4
Given another chance to make his mark for England having disappointed against North Macedonia and let it pass by once again.
The striker missed a first half sitter after being played through by Gallagher, blasting over the bar from close range.
Substitutes
Ezri Konsa (for Walker, 20’) – 6
A baptism of fire for the Aston Villa man making his Three Lions debut against Rodrygo and the tricky Endrick, but did well in the circumstances.
Joe Gomez (for Chilwell, 67’) – 6
May get a chance to make more of an impact on Tuesday if given the nod to start ahead of Chilwell against Belgium, something he deserves given the performance of the Chelsea man here.
Lewis Dunk (for Maguire, 67’) – 5
A very poor header straight to the feet of Andreas Pereira who started the move for Endrick’s goal.
Jarrod Bowen (for Bellingham, 67’) – 5
The odd run down the right aside the West Ham man saw little of the ball after being sent on.
Kobbie Mainoo (for Gallagher, 75’) – 6
Confident enough to ask for the ball and try to get England moving from the middle but didn’t make too great an impact on proceedings.
Marcus Rashford (for Gordon, 75’) – 6
Showed some threat down the left and slalomed into the penalty box in injury time before being stopped just before getting a shot off.
