Zach Edey’s NBA Draft odds to go in the top 10 have become surprisingly realistic

While Zach Edey was a standout college player with the Purdue Boilermakers, some NBA scouts have expressed skepticism about whether the big man’s skill set would translate to the next level.

It’s a valid question with the 2024 NBA Draft around the corner.

One of the better mock draft projections for Edey’s future comes from our Bryan Kalbrosky, who has Edey going as high as No. 14 overall to the Portland Trail Blazers.

Oddsmakers are now taking this even further.

Edey’s consensus odds to go somewhere in the top 10 on Wednesday night have now surged to +250. This comes after those odds have hovered as low as +3000 with BetMGM earlier in the draft cycle. Something seems fishy here, as you can now bet on Edey going in the top 10 with +275 odds over at BetMGM.

Nonetheless, it’s entirely to the talented young man’s benefit:

I still have supreme doubt that Edey will get drafted in the top 10. The questions about his game seem very real and very prevalent on a leaguewide basis.

Still, as is visually the case with these kinds of situations, all it takes is one team to convince itself that it is the right fit for a particular prospect. Edey doesn’t need a consensus. He just needs one team up high in the draft order to like his NBA future. In this case, with Edey’s top-10 odds going up on the market, that’s probably exactly what happened.
