MOSCOW — A Russian helicopter crashed in Syria on New Year’s Eve killing both pilots following a technical fault, Moscow’s defence ministry said Wednesday.

Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort has filed a lawsuit against Special Counsel Robert Mueller according to several news reports. In a lawsuit filed in federal court, Manafort asked the court to scale back Mueller's authority and set aside the criminal case against him. In October, Manafort and an associate were indicted by the special counsel on charges of conspiring against the U.S. as well as money laundering.

The U.S. president seems out to get Palestine, and there's nobody with the vision or charisma to do anything about it.

BALTIMORE (AP) — The Baltimore Teachers Union says the city should close schools until heating problems can be addressed amid a cold snap. The union delivered a letter on Wednesday to schools CEO Sonja Santelises. Union President Marietta English urged her to "close schools in the District until your facilities crew has had time to properly asses and fix the heating issues within the affected schools in Baltimore City." WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrat Doug Jones of Alabama was sworn into office Wednesday, shrinking the Senate's Republican majority and leading lawmakers of both parties to plead for more bipartisanship as Congress tackles pressing issues in advance of the 2018 midterm elections. WASHINGTON — The Trump administration — reversing guidelines put in place under President Barack Obama — is scaling back the use of fines against nursing homes that harm residents or place them in grave risk of injury. The shift in the Medicare program’s penalty protocols was requested by the nursing home industry. The American Health Care Association, the industry’s main trade group, has complained that under Obama, inspectors focused excessively on catching wrongdoing rather than helping nursing homes improve. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A revised gender-pay lawsuit seeking class-action status against Google faults the search giant for asking new hires about their prior salary, a practice now banned in California. The suit, filed Wednesday, also adds a fourth complainant, a preschool teacher with a master's degree. The four women allege they were underpaid by Google compared with their male counterparts.
