A Sylvania man was sentenced Thursday to 20 years in prison by Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Stacy Cook for hiring someone to set fire to a house where three people lived.

BURLEY, Idaho (AP) — Eastern Idaho authorities say about half a dozen railroad cars carrying corn derailed in Burley on Thursday. Cassia County Undersheriff George Warrell tells The Times-News that there are no injuries in the Eastern Idaho Railroad derailment that occurred at about 10 a.m. where the rail line crosses U.S. Route 30. Warrell says the highway was blocked for about 20 minutes. Watco Companies owns the railroad. Spokeswoman Tracie VanBecelaere says the derailment is under investigation. Читать дальше...

The Erie Catholic Diocese is now preparing to follow the lead of the Buffalo Diocese and soon release the names of priests credibly accused of sex abuse. In a written statement, the diocese says, "We have been preparing to take similar steps within the next several weeks." Meantime, a former Erie priest who says he was sexually abused by a priest in Erie while he was a teenager says the pending release of names is a good move.

AVON, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut school board has approved a settlement of a lawsuit that accused four educators of indoctrinating three sisters into a religious cult that celebrates death. Avon School Superintendent Bridget Carnemolla said Thursday that ending the case was a business decision and the schools' insurer will pay the $62,500 settlement. She said she could not comment further. The school board approved the deal Tuesday. The sisters' parents sued the school district, three teachers and a guidance counselor in federal court in 2014. RACINE, Wis. – A Wisconsin man faces charges after he allegedly bit a sheriff’s office K-9  during his arrest last Monday. The Racine County Sheriff’s Office released body camera video of 44-year-old Leland O’Malley, who faces multiple charges from the incident. BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho is continuing its crusade against abortion with Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter signing legislation into law that will increase reporting requirements for abortion providers. Some of the personal information required in the measure is already collected by the state's health and welfare agency. However, starting July 1, providers will be required by law to report details such as woman's age, race, how many children she has, if any of their children have died and how many abortions they've had in the past. HB 4265, our safe passing bill, was approved 106-2, while HB 4198, driver's education improvement legislation, was approved 98-10. Firefighters rescued someone from a stranded vehicle after flash flooding overtook a Sacramento County, California, road on Thursday, March 22. Video from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District shows firefighters maneuvering a raft into position, tossing a life vest to a person standing on top of the vehicle before the person jumps into the raft with guidance from a firefighter. DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Magazine and broadcasting company Meredith plans to remodel its corporate headquarters in Des Moines to accommodate 41 jobs it's transferring from New York as it merges the Time Incorporated staff into its own.
