When it comes to big ticket events like the Cannes Film Festival, you see A-listers posing on the red carpet, paparazzi screaming their name and maybe even some behind-the-scenes moments of celebrities getting ready. However, what you don’t get to see, are the fancy digs that the rich and the famous stay at during such events. Like the Hotel Martinez, which is the preferred choice of stay among the leading ladies of Bollywood – such as Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan – who are regulars at the festival.

First, a quick lesson in history: Hôtel Martinez has been around since the late 1920s and was renamed as the Grand Hyatt Cannes Hotel Martinez when it was brought by the Hyatt Chain in 2012. But in 2018, following renovations, the hotel was given its original name back.

An obvious big selling point for the hotel, is the location. Chances are that you must have seen celebs posting from their balcony with the Mediterranean Sea as the backdrop. Which means, the iconic palm-tree lined seaside promenade is at the hotel’s doorstep. Check out the view here:

Ahead of the Cannes film Festival, the hotel got a facelift of $1billion. And with 409 rooms, the hotel is the largest in Cannes. But if you are not a known name, then forget about scoring a room during peak festival season.

Checking-in at the Martinez also means access to the largest private beach, as well as the La Palme d’Or restaurant – a recipient of two Michelin stars.
