My recollection was that he was welcomed at the Blues, certainly I had no issues with him taking over (and I was a young hoolie in those days!). We had local rivalry much as we have today but the big difference was we didn't have social media so couldn't share opinions like we do today. A lot of things seemed to go unsaid.
There seemed to be a lot of swapping between Blues and Villa, I recall we signed their captain John Sleeuwenhoek, the Villa fans idolised him and nicknamed him "slogger"... Читать дальше...
The reason I asked this question is because I did a two part radio show on WM 20 years ago called Desperate Island Discs where I asked people the records they'd least like to be stranded on a desert island with. I had Jon from Neds on. He chose Joe Dolce's Shaddap You Face because it kept Vienna by Ultravox off the top spot, which, coincidentally, is one of the main reasons I like Shaddap You Face.

Ta Hurricane. One of my first memories was the Altrincham game. Hearing the result on the radio in bed as a kid and then dreading school even more than ever.
Stick with it until 29 Oct. See how badly she takes the defeat and don’t gloat too much. It might all work out.
F*ck her off after you've mangled her. Don't be nice about it either, tell her you got what you wanted and now she's dead to you.
I met some Belfast lads on holiday in the Summer. One of them, Marty, told me lots of stories but never mentioned this [www.dundalkfc.com]
His dad was Jimmy Hasty, a revered Dundalk footballer who only had one arm. He lost his arm in an accident on his first day at work when he was 14. He never let it hold him back from his dream of playing football though and he scored 109 goals in 169 appearances for Dundalk! He was killed by the UVF in a tit for tat shooting in 1974 when Marty was 7. Читать дальше...

Two things I always remember about Saunders:
1. When he first came to Blues he said that he could do in five years what had taken him eight years to achieve at Vile - win the European Cup.
2. After about 18 months at Blues he said something like "this is not what I signed up for - I never wanted to be an accountant".

I'm also going to go for Dreadlock Holiday - 10cc. Stereotypical, bandwagon-jumping, patronising, and, well... shit. If Queen had been a reggae band, they couldn't have done the middle bit any better. Or worse.
Luckily reggae, as a genre, was strong enough to recover from this assassination attempt.

And to rub salt in the wounds we ended up with Bond , Pendrey and then Mackay and the Judas Macari , three of those were absolutely top professional top flight players in their respective hey days ....Sorry Kung Fu Gazza
And some of you think we have it really bad today ??
LOL

So I’ve just starting seeing a bird. Things are going well, seems nice enough etc.
But I have just had the unfortunate pleasure of discovering that she’s a viler. (td)
Do I make a run for it, or do I see it out and hope that the problem goes away? :(

Agree regarding any Meatloaf song. Although there is now a Meatloaf tribute advert showing on this message. Hope it is costing him money.
Three cups of strong black coffee in the morning, and in the afternoon, being a pretentious twot, three cups of Earl Grey, not too strong, and definitely no milk (milk in Earl Grey is for louts). Actually, I really like Earl Grey tea, especially with a twist of lemon.
Absolutely top bloke and a classic example of having a manager who managed us at the totally wrong time....he was a hard liner too
Saunders' Vile had just won the European Cup and Deadly Ellis was the one pulling strings over at the Rat's Nest.....he wasn't in charge that night but it was most definitely his team that won it built and moulded together on a shoestring over 6 or 7 years
However from Day One over at B9 he was battling with the owners (first the Coombes Mob and... Читать дальше...
I hate them so much I'm glad I got the band and song wrong. That'll learn 'em
So - and I got this from Wikipedia - he left the other team the season after they fluked the league, with them in the QF of the tinpot Eurovision Sheild, and mid-table in the league, and walked out in a huff and straight over to their biggest rivals?
Like a massive flounce. So breaking up with your bird and immediately snogging her best mate right in front of her.
To be honest, he must have been a nightmare to be anywhere near after they accidentally won that tiny little cup.
