Italian champions Napoli are weighing up a move for Giovani Lo Celso, but currently find themselves around €10m short of Tottenham Hotspur’s valuation of the player.
The Argentina international joined Tottenham in 2019 and came with a big price tag and even bigger expectations. Sadly, Lo Celso has never quite lived up to the hype.
Having spent the last two years on loan at Villarreal, the playmaker is now back at Spurs and it seems decisions need to be made regarding his future.
A report from Sport over the weekend suggested both Barcelona and Real Betis are being made to wait to find out if Lo Celso will be available this summer, as new Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou wants to assess the player before letting him go.
Last season’s Serie A winners, Napoli, are now thought to be in the race to sign the 27-year-old.
Apparently, the Italian side would be keen to strike a loan deal with an option to buy (CalcioMercato), however, it is believed Spurs are adamant they want to sell Lo Celso outright this summer.
Napoli €10m short of Spurs’ Lo Celso valuation
The latest report on the situation from Italy comes courtesy of TuttoMercatoWeb, who claim Napoli are negotiating a deal for the purchase of Lo Celso, but are some way off the price tag Spurs had in mind.
Apparently, Tottenham are expecting €25m for the sale of Lo Celso, but Napoli are currently offering just €15m. The two clubs are thought to be “negotiating” on the matter of closing “the gap” of €10m (£8.6m) in their two estimations.
Spurs Web Opinion
I would imagine the two clubs may end up meeting in the middle here on a deal worth around €20m for Lo Celso.
Spurs should go no lower than that, as this is a player who is more than capable of playing at the top level, but has just never quite fit in at Spurs sadly.
