Soccernews.nl have revealed that Ajax are now exploring a move for Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in January.
The speculation over Hojbjerg’s future continues to intensify as we get closer to the January transfer window, with multiple outlets reporting over the last month that he is near the top of Juventus’ wishlist (CalcioMercato).
Last week, it emerged that Fulham are also ready to reignite their interest in the Dane, with the Cottagers allegedly viewing him as a potential replacement for Joao Palhinha, who is once again attracting interest from Bayern Munich (90 min).
Ajax enter race for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
According to Soccernews, Ajax have now become the latest club to register an interest in Hojbjerg ahead of the January transfer window.
The report states that the Eredivisie giants have explored a move for the Tottenham man in the past and are now preparing to turn their attention towards him once again.
It is explained that the Amsterdam club are keen to add reinforcements in midfield and there is a belief at the Johan Cruyff Arena that the 28-year-old would be the ‘best option’ for them.
VI journalist Matthijs Vegter is quoted in the same report as saying about Hojbjerg: “He ended up outside the starting XI at Tottenham at the start of the season under the new coach.
“However, he has been playing more in recent matches. He has of course been in the picture before at Ajax. He is really a leader and controller who enjoys defensive work.”
Spurs Web Opinion
It remains to be seen if Ajax would be able to afford the £25m-£30m fee that Tottenham are likely to demand for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in January. There is also a question mark over whether the Danish international would be overly enthused about the idea of moving to the Eredivisie.
Hojbjerg once again found himself on the bench for yesterday’s 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa with Ange Postecoglou instead preferring to select Rodrigo Bentancur ahead of him.
