INews have revealed that Everton has slapped a huge £100m price tag on Jarrad Branthwaite to ward off interest from Tottenham and other suitors.
Branthwaite has emerged as one of the best young centre-backs across the Premier League this season and the youngster seems to be getting better with each game, playing a staring role over recent weeks as the Toffees kept four consecutive clean sheets in the Premier League.
The 21-year-old’s displays seem to have caught Tottenham’s attention, with several outlets reporting since the start of December that the defender has emerged as one of the North London club’s top January targets (Sky Sports).
However, various publications have said that the Merseyside club to not have any intention of cashing in on their academy graduate and are expected to demand a huge fee for the player (Football Transfers).
Record bid needed to sign Jarrad Branthwaite
It has now been suggested by INews that Everton will only sell Branthwaite for £100m, which would make him the most expensive defender in Premier League history, overtaking the £80m Manchester United paid for Harry Maguire.
The report states that apart from Spurs, the young centre-back is also attracting interest from Man Utd and Borussia Dortmund.
However, it is alleged that Sean Dyche’s men are under no pressure to sell the youngster and the news of the £100m price tag ‘rules out any sale in January’.
Spurs Web Opinion
If Branthwaite continues in the same vein, he has a decent chance of starting for England at the Euros next summer.
The 21-year-old’s value is going to continue to rise over the next year or so and given that he is contracted until 2027 at Goodison Park, there is no reason for Everton to consider selling him next month.
