Slawomir Czarniecki, who works as a director at Bayern Leverkusen, has confirmed that the German club could consider a summer move for Fenerbahce midfielder Sebastian Szymanski, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.
Szymanski has caught the eye with his displays for Fenerbache this season, with the 27-year-old quickly emerging as one of the best number sixes in Turkish football.
The Poland international, who can also fill in at centre-back, is thought to be attracting interest from around Europe, with Tottenham named as one of the clubs following him.
This was the information reported by Star Gazetesi last month, with the outlet claiming that the Lilywhites were keeping a close eye on the performances of the midfielder, who is allegedly valued at £30m.
Spurs may have competition for Szymon Szymanski
Spurs may seemingly have some competition to deal with for Szymanski, with a Bayer Leverkusen official now confirming that the German club are also contemplating a move for the player.
Slawomir Czarniecki, who serves as the director of football for the Under-19 side at the Bay Arena, has now revealed that the Bundesliga leaders might need reinforcements in the middle of the park, with the Fenerbache man being one of the options on their list.
He has now told Weszlo: “Our scouting department knows Sebastian. As in the case of (Wolfsburg’s Jakub) Kamimski, we were and are in contact with his surroundings.
“We are preparing for the fact that, after such a good season, there may be a few departures. We don’t know in what positions, but Szymanski could potentially be considered.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Despite the fact that Lucas Bergvall will be joining the squad in the summer, I do expect Tottenham to enter the market for another midfielder, likely a number six, as I expect both Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp to depart the club.
