I’d much prefer games against France to the make belief All Stars fixture. It’s not a fixture that will overly test us but it gets the players together and the main benefit is the development opportunity it gives the French.
I see the long term international calendar plan has been put back until the new year now. Let’s hope that’s because a good plan takes time and not because they’re struggling to get the NRL to commit to more than the odd one off international here and there. I suspect it’ll be more towards the latter. Читать дальше...

There is a big difference between England v France at a world cup, and England v France in a mid season international.

The game's problems have all been rooted in a lack of money in the sport and the reasons for that are complex. Removing the salary cap isn't going to solve all the problems and may have some unintended consequences.
Rugby union is hardly a picture of financial health and probity - having a higher cap hasn't stopped two top flight clubs from going out of business. The real problem is that there isn't enough money, fullstop.
Football outside the premier league isn't much better. Читать дальше...

Don’t think he’s signed up and didn’t see him in training videos but if he’s still part of reserves then as you say he could be an option. There is also Gaskell too but we are still light in depth.

England Men and Women to play France in April's international break.
Good to have something in the diary but not sure id have gone with Warrington as the venue as both last years England game and the WC group games had poor crowds (crowds at Hull were also poor before anyone pipes up ) id have gone with a small ground in London to try and attract French ex pats, maybe Brentford as its a modern ground and the area has some RL history.

The sad death of Kevin Beardmore has been announced, at the untimely age of 62. Kev was a great player in a talented 80s Cas side and a quality footballer. I don't think he really got the international recognition he deserved and was far too often overlooked in favour of David Watkinson who, from what I saw, was half the player Kev was. RIP Gripper.

I’m not sure about being obliged to provide seating for away fans, but I did hear a bit of discussion in the shop the other day. A customer asked if away fans could purchase stand tickets and where would they sit. It was suggested away fans would sit at extreme south end of stand, a bit like other clubs do, Trinity fans it seems always have to sit in the corners.

Right story this.
Plus the England lads were reportedly playing knock a door run on the Samoans in a Manchester hotel. Why were they even there the semi was in London?
Plus the Kiwis are cheesed off because the organisers booked their return flights before they'd been knocked out ha ha ha

I find it bewildering that the team are just back in pre season training and we still haven't signed a halfback having known we've needed one for about 6 months when it was common knowledge Widdop was going. It's just poor planning.

It would be interesting to find out (not from a player with an axe to grind) how this pre season has differentiated from previous regimes.

Indeed. I'd keep the champagne on ice until the signings are actually confirmed.
