Great bloke when he was with us and a massive improvement on the previous incumbent he's a decent sort with bags of integrity and loads of good thinking and a massive fan of the game in general I think in the short term at least the RFL are in good hands. Really pleased for him.

Yes I agree the noise coming out of the camp to include ‘changes in culture’ are very positive. This is despite us being told that nothing was wrong last year of course…

Looking forward to seeing the new signings, Ritson and Bruines. Both come with little expectation I guess as neither are establish players in the top division, but will be interesting to see how they both go, if they make it into the first team. Also the return of Lewis Dodd could be revolutionary for Saints. I think his absence massively affected us last season and we could go up a gear this year if he comes back and finds his feet, although again probably got to temper expectations given how severe an injury it was. The point is though, when the clubs claiming to have put huge amounts of investment into developing players therefore they can justifiably claim compensation it’s not exactly true. In last week's League Express there was a letter from me in which I referred to the issue of mental health and how it can affect some players when they finish playing, some referees when they finish refereeing and any number of supporters when they grow old. My suggestion of a way to keep mentally healthy is to start writing a novel based broadly on your own life and times, your family history, schooldays, employment, home town and its history and culture and your connections with and your knowledge of your favourite sport. Seems to have gone a bit quiet on Patton and him possibly leaving. He looked fine early on last season but as you say he ballooned in size and became a passenger on the field.
Wonder if he's got in shape under this new positive culture? On form and in the right frame of mind he could be a real plus. We shall see. With most of the roly polys now gone Patton will be surrounded (hopefully) with better attitudes and leaders which will hopefully rub off or at least keep him on the straight and narrow. I've been told a bit of news regarding a couple of our new signings Toby Warren will apparently rejoin York on a season long loan & Luke Hooley has damaged Ankle ligaments in training and requires surgery could be out for up to 12 weeks unfortunately.
