Ben is a player that flourishes in a winning team, when the chiops are down, he just doesn't seem like a player that will knuckle down and make things happen.

The words from Adrian Morley regarding Daryl Powell:
“I think they need to keep faith in Daryl Powell because he’s a tried and tested coach,” said the 45-year-old Great Britain legend.
“He’s been coaching in Super League for a very long time and next year he will have a number of players at his disposal who he has brought in. Hopefully he’ll be able to stamp his mark on the team a little bit more, so fingers crossed he can do that.
“Daryl needs to get off to a good start because... Читать дальше...

I agree with that to some extent.
The person who gets the job, any job for that matter isn`t always the best person for it.
Friendship and trust goes a long way when appointing it happens in all walks of life.
You see it in football when the new manager brings in his trusted team and the old coaching staff are removed.
It`s not because they are better it is because they can be trusted to implement the new managers way of working.

If Tanginoa is as devastating as people think, why doesn't he score more tries?
I like him but he needs to hit gaps more than people.
Of course, that could be to do with his service.
How does all this "how long does Powell have" balance with the desire to see him giving young players a shot and sticking with them rather than jettisoning them if they don't set the world on fire in their first 10 to 20 games?
If Powell starts the season with Riley Dean and 6 games into the season we've won 3, lost 3, do we say we aren't hitting the ground running, lets ditch him and bring in a proper coach who will make signing an experienced halfback a priority and ship Dean off to the Championship to build his experience? Looking at the present squad that doesnt leave a lot of room for movement .
IMG made their proposals to the clubs this week and I thought it might be interesting to look at them in a bit of detail.
In my opinion, there is a lot to like. That starts with the nature of the partnership with IMG. If you pay consultants they’re not going to be as invested in your success. If you take investment from, say, private equity… well that always reminds me of the bit in Goodfellas when the mob take over the nightclub ( ‘business is bad? F U, pay me. Oh, you had a fire? Thought I'd start this so it makes it easier for people to keep track of the squad for the upcoming season. Still use the transfer thread to chat about potential incomings and outgoings.

It’s funny I started this thread 8 years ago and it all still applies pretty much, for a different set of players. You could resurrect this in a decade and it will still apply.
The title actually comes from a line I remember Stevo saying a lot during games when Saints were doing well - “This sintellins team Eddie…” just as a statement with no follow up.

Just confirmed….it’s Dom Manfredi’s Birthday.
Dan on the other forum is suggesting it’s Patrick Mago’s Birthday at some point next year.

York don't have an Academy or the off field infrastructure in place, we do. Ditto London and Newcastle though they do have academies but it would be interesting, especially in Londons case, just how secure a deal they have with their landlords.
What this is showing to me is that our BOD's seem to have anticipated what was coming much better than some others - most notably our neighbours over the common.

Surprised winter rugby is being talked about, and if we can't make summer work then we really are stuck.Sure, I used to turn up in the depths of winter, and to be fair I have some great memories, but it doesn't hold any appeal to me now.
