Its quiet at the club again and although little seems to be happening on the home front as far as the game is concerned big changes, perhaps the biggest for decades, are afoot. IMG one of the biggest sports consultants have been sounding out all the stake holders in the game including sponsors, media partners, players, clubs and 20,000 fans and come up with their initial proposals. I have long been an advocate of a clubs off field activities, stadia, structures and status being considered as well as their on field endeavours. Читать дальше...
Wasting a marquee spot on a winger and making him your highest paid player is shocking. Even NRL teams know that wingers are the lowest paid players

He is being paid a small fortune by Huddersfield. He isn't going to be a squad player. He is a dependable enough player and you won't hear a bad word about him from any Wigan fan but he is just a steady Eddie really. Fantastic commitment though and he was sublime under Watson at Salford.

In addition to drawing on IMG’s global expertise, the recommendations have been made following extensive consultation with key stakeholders across Rugby League, including clubs, broadcasters, sponsors, media, players... Читать дальше...
Reading between the lines you get to the top tier by investment & progression.
Invest your own cash, spend all your salary cap as well as having the A grade licence obviously has facilities and structures that have a minimum requirement.
Given this where does this put us?
The big fella needs to pull his finger out or move on?.

Mentioned in the Sky Sports report (but not in the BBC one):
Further to the proposals set out, IMG have also recommended the removal of loop fixtures, including the Magic Weekend, bringing the Challenge Cup final back to May and having increased focus on international breaks.
The devil will be in the detail and we haven't seen any of that yet.

Well thank you IMG. Back to the old ways of the RFL choosing who the let in to the top league. It was a farce last time and will be again. Cas and Wakefield still in their 100year old crap grounds given top billing no doubt. Bulls going bust but hay give them a licence. There may be promotion between the second and third leagues. So we go back 8 years. How this helps with rugby league in the country I have no idea. Backwards steps and protecting the clubs at the top of the food chain. The sport is ficked! Читать дальше...
Well back to pointless years of friendly's it is. Just killing off the championship teams hopes and leaving nothing to play for at the bottom of sl

In summary the recommendations are:
A re-positioned calendar which optimises flow, narrative and engagement, incorporating regular 'peaks' of interest and a compelling season climax.
A calendar aligned with the global game to facilitate an international window in October and incorporate a mid-season international.
Participation in the top tier to be based on a range of on and off field measures, delivered through a... Читать дальше...

I will leave that here...
Participation of clubs outside of the UK to be capped and with additional standards to support domestic growth.
Looks like there will be a great crowd for this one with only a few seats and standing tickets remaining. Hopefully Fiji will make a decent game of it, there should be some entertaining rugby even if the score line does end up a bit one sided. Fiji have some decent players but they don’t look as strong as Tonga or Samoa.
As things stand it’s
Cat D seats sold out
Cat C seats sold out
Cat B seats sold out
Cat A seats 85% sold

12 Months ago, Leigh had no Director of Rugby, No Manager and a small group of players. Leigh had chewed up several managers, Jukes, Duffy, and Haggerty all without a good pedigree but seeming to share a friendship with the owner, Mr Derek john beaumont (sic).
There were a number of high profile managers available McDermott, Sheens, Lam, and Chester et al. There was certain disappointment when Chris Chester was appointed Director of Rugby, with many people thinking that he would combine this role with that of managing the team. Читать дальше...
